  • We are living currently in the Web 2.0 world
  • Web 3.0 is coming up in the future
  • There are established internet markets hitting 3.1bn as at 2015
  • Bashtag and how it helps companies on social media to have the impulse of their clients about their services
  • Social media presence this day is important for business as it attracts more customers than traditional advertising means

What are the most significant things I have learned during this session?

  • What data and information are and their differences
  • The life cycle of information are group into the categories of creation, existence and estimation
  • The processes that information in an information system passes through are capture, store, use and generate, share, maintain, secure, archive and destroy
  • Data protection and privacy issues have to be considered during the data processing activities. This is supported by various legislation.
  • Information systems is an academic discipline with Positivism, Interpretivism and Critical IS approach
  • The two uses of business process models and the processes involved (Pragmatic and rigorous paradigms)
  • The Business process modelling notations comparing it with the known flowchart symbols and notations
  • Derivation of the word ‘System’ from 2 Greek word ‘sun’ (with) and ‘histania'(set up)
  • A system has structure (static property), behavior (dynamic property) and life cycle.
  • Cybernetic and its feedback principle called Thermostat and Homeostat
  • The concept of self-regulating (adjust based on feedback) and self-organising (when tending towards equilibrium) system
